Portfolio Advice
Students who apply for art and design courses are required
to submit a portfolio of work with their application. Only
by looking at your work can we assess your skills and strengths and how you
develop your ideas. When assessing a portfolio, understanding the processes you
have used to develop your work is as important as the final work itself. It is
essential that you include sketchbooks, drawings and the visual research and
planning you did to develop your work. Remember that we are particularly
interested in your most recent work, even if it is unfinished.
If you are sending your portfolio please send colour copies, slides/ photos, or CD ROMs rather than original work. For CD-ROM submissions, images should be embedded within a PowerPoint presentation. Please do not send any work larger than A3.
Before you submit your portfolio, you should watch the portfolio preparation series and the guide to sketchbooks. These resources will help you understand what is expected of your portfolio submission.
University of the Arts London offers a number of courses at various levels,
which do not require portfolio submission. Please refer to our prospectus or contact us for further information if you require more
information about this.
